Blessings in a Backpack

Blessings volunteers pack the sacks each week and deliver them to schools.

Sample contents from a Blessings in a Backpack sack. Each week the bags contain different items.

Blessings in a Backpack distributes sacks of nutritious supplemental food to students attending Benzie Central and Frankfort-Elberta School Districts who need extra food for the weekends.

Each week during the school year (September through June), a group of dedicated volunteers packs bags of shelf-stable foods that are carefully balanced for proteins, salt, fat, and sugar content and then deliver the bags to each school. The schools distribute the bags on Fridays to students who have signed up either at the school or at BACN.

During the 2022-23 school year, we distributed Blessings sacks to 270 students each week.

Food for the Blessings bags comes from multiple sources:

  • BACN purchases the items for the bags through its vendors.
  • BACN receives donations for Blessings from some of its partners and donors.
  • NEW! BACN has created an Amazon Wish List of foods and other items we need for the program.
